Sama Khichdi/Barnyard Millet Khichdi Recipe. Khichdi is made often at home for lunch since my younger kid loves it. I make many varieties, this one is similar to the dal khichdi i shared earlier except I have used foxtail millet known as korra biyyam in telugu & thinai arisi in tamil.

  1. Prepare 1 cup of sama millet/ baryand millet.
  2. Take 2 tbsp of ghee.
  3. Prepare 1 tbsp of cummin seeds.
  4. Prepare leaves of Few curry.
  5. It’s 1 tbsp of green chillies-ginger paste.
  6. You need 1 of small chopped tomato.
  7. You need 1 of boiled potato peel and chopped into cubes.
  8. It’s 2 cups of buttermilk.

  1. Soak sama millets for 20 mins. Discard soaked water. In non-stick thick bottom kadhai add and heat ghee. Do tempering of cummin seeds add & saute curry leaves,green chillies ginger paste, chopped tomato and potato..
  2. Add & saute soaked Sama, salt for few minutes. Add buttermilk,mix well. Cover and cook on slow flame for 10 minutes,in between stirring occasionally.(Add little water if necessary)..
  3. Serve Hot Healthy Sama Khichdi in bowl garnishing with chopped coriander leaves and fried peanuts..

We begin making Sama Khichdi Recipe (Vrat Recipe) by dry roasting the barnyard millets in a pan till it turns slight brown.Turn off the flame and allow it to cool.Transfer to a serving dish and garnish with coriander leaves and squeeze in the lemon and give it a mix.
