Ingredients of Kodo millet idlis !!
- You need 1 &1/2 cup of kodo millet.
- You need 1/2 cup of urad dal.
- It’s 1/2 cup of poha.
- Make ready 1 tsp of methi seeds.
- Prepare to taste of Salt.
Kodo Millet is an easily available millet.It is called as Kodra in Hindi and Harka in kannada and Koovaragu in Malayalam.I have just replaced Varagu arisi with normal idli rice.Ready to serve Barnyard millet idli(Varai idli).
Kodo millet idlis !! step by step
- Firstly take the measures quantity of kodo millet, dal and methi seeds in a big bowl and wash it well.Then soak it for 5 to 6 hours.
- Just half an hour before grinding soak the poha..
- Then put all of these in the mixer and grind to make a batter..
- Add salt and mix well and keep it overnight for fermentation.It will look like this after it gets fermented..
- Then grease the idli plates with little oil and pour batter in the plates.
- Then steam it for 10 minutes in a pressure cooker..
- Turn off the gas when done.Remove carefully once it cools down.
- Serve with chutney of your choice..
But i love varagu/Kodo millet(Kodra/Koden in Hindi,Harka in Kannada,Koovaragu in Malayalam & Arikelu in Telugu) among all because it helps to lose weight,controls diabetes.Kodo millet is known as Kodra/Koden in Hindi,Harka in Kannada,Varugu Arisi in Tamil , Koovaragu in Malayalam & Arikelu in Telugu.The making of these idli dosas are similar to our normal regular dosa just that replace rice with kodo millet.
