Idiyappam Upma Recipe. Idiyappam Upma is prepared with leftover idiyappam. This idiyappam is prepared by rice flour with salt and water and pressed with idiyappam presser and steamed.

Ingredients of Idiyappam Upma
- Make ready 2-3 of leftover idiyappam balls, shredded.
- It’s 2 tbsp. of oil.
- Make ready 1 tsp. of mustard seeds.
- You need 1 tsp. of urad dal (split black gram).
- You need 1 of onion, chopped.
- It’s 2 of green chilies, slit.
- You need 1 sprig of curry leaves.
- Make ready 1" of ginger grated.
- It’s 1 cup of chopped mixed veggies (carrot, beans, red cabbage, peas, potato, etc).
- Prepare to taste of salt.
- You need 1 tsp. of sambar powder / idli podi (gunpowder).
- Take 2-3 tbsp. of roasted cashewnuts.
- Make ready as needed of coriander leaves to garnish.
Any upma is my favorite, but this is one easy and unique upma made from the leftover idlies.Extremely soft and moist idiyappam recipe made from scratch.Generally, Idiyappam and kozhukattai is made with puttu flour / Idiyappam rice flour that's available in the market.Idiyappam, also called nool puttu, is a traditional South Indian breakfast item.
Idiyappam Upma step by step
- Heat oil in a pan and temper with mustard seeds. After it stops spluttering, add the curry leaves, urad dal, onion, green chilies and ginger. Saute for a few seconds..
- Now add the mixed veggies and continue to fry for a minute. Add some water and cook, covered till they are soft..
- Then add the shredded idiyappam, salt and sambar powder. Saute for 2 minutes. When done, switch off the flame..
- Add the coriander leaves and give it a toss. Garnish with roasted cashew nuts and serve..
