Ingredients of Chocolate Idli with Coconut -palm jaggery filling

  1. Prepare 1/2 cup of grated coconut.
  2. It’s 1/4 cup of palm-jaggery.
  3. Prepare 1/2 tsp of cardamom powder.
  4. Take 1/4 cup of sugar.
  5. Prepare 2 cup of rice.
  6. Prepare 1/2 cup of whole or split urad dal.
  7. It’s 1/4 cup of thick poha.

Chocolate Idli with Coconut -palm jaggery filling step by step

  1. Pick & rinse the rice,rinse the poha & add to the rice.Add water & mix well, cover & keep the rice & poha to soak for 4 to 5 hours..
  2. In a separate bowl rinse the urad dal a couple of times.Soak the urad dal separately for 4,5hours..
  3. Making Idli batter- Grind the rice,urad dal till you get a smooth & fluffy batter.Add salt & mix well..
  4. Cover & let the batter ferment for 8 to 9 hours..
  5. After the fermentation process is over,the idli batter will double in size & rise..
  6. Steaming idlis- Grease the idli moulds with oil.Pour half a ladleful of the idli batter into each mould..
  7. Top it with the coconut,jaggery mix..
  8. Mix little batter with chocolate powder..
  9. Cover half of the filling with plain idli batter & half with the chocolate idle batter..
  10. Steam the idlies in a steamer.Steam for 10-12 mints until the idlies are done..
  11. Serve the steaming hot idlies with coconut chutney..
