Ingredients of Rice and Moong Dal Idli

  1. Prepare 1/2 cup of rice (chawal).
  2. Prepare 1/2 cup of green moong dal (split green gram).
  3. You need 1/4 tsp of fenugreek (methi) seeds(optional).
  4. Make ready 1/2 cup of grated carrot.
  5. You need 1/2 cup of finely chopped spring onion whites and greens.
  6. It’s To taste of salt.
  7. You need 1 of Eno.

This easy-to-make recipe is made using simple ingredients which are easily available at your home such as rice, green moong dal, spring onions, and fruit salt.Use the pressure cooker to save time.Mix the khichdi well, dal and rice should be very soft, little mushy.Heat the clarified butter in other saucepan over medium heat, Test the oil by adding one cumin seed to the oil; if it cracks right.

Rice and Moong Dal Idli instructions

  1. Soak the rice, moong dal and fenugreek seeds in a deep bowl with enough water for 5 to 6 hours. Drain and blend in a mixer to a smooth paste using little water. Transfer the mixture into a bowl, add the carrots, spring onion whites and greens and salt and mix well..
  2. Just before steaming, add the fruit salt to the batter and pour water over it. When the bubbles form, mix gently. Put a little batter into each greased idli mould and steam in a steamer for 10 minutes or till the idlis are cooked. Cool slightly, demould and serve immediately with nutritious green chutney..
