- Prepare 1 cup of millet Little (Saamai) -.
- It’s 1/4 cup of Moong dal -.
- Make ready pinch of Turmeric (optional) powder - a.
- You need 4 cups of Water -.
- You need 8 - 10 of Black peppercorns (coarsely crushed) -.
- Make ready 1/2 tsp of Jeera -.
- Prepare 5 - 7 of Curry leaves -.
- It’s 1/2 inch of Ginger - piece.
- Prepare 1/4 tsp of Asafoetida -.
- Take 10 - 12 of Cashewnuts -.
- You need 2 tbsps of Ghee -.
- Make ready of Salt - as needed.
Little Millet Pongal (Saamai Pongal) step by step
- Take little millet and moong dal together in a broad vessel and wash it 2-3 times..
- Add water, turmeric powder, asafoetida, 1/2 tsp salt and jeera to it. Pressure cook for 2 whistles in high flame and 5 minutes in low flame..
- Wait for the steam to release and then open the cooker..
- In a small pan, heat 1 tbsp of ghee and fry cashewnuts till light brown. Add this to cooked pongal.
- In the same hot ghee, grate ginger finely, add coarsely crushed pepper and curry leaves. Mix them well and add this to cooked pongal.
- Add 1 tbsp ghee and the required salt to the pongal and mix all these together..
- If it feels tight or hard, boil 1/4 cup of water and add it slowly to the pongal to get the required consistency..
- Goes very well with sambhar..
