Semolina Upma Recipe. Essentially, upma is a thick, porridge-like breakfast dish that is made from coarse rice flour or semolina that has been dry-roasted. Its extremely versatile, so don't be afraid to experiment with ingredients.

Ingredients of Semolina Upma

  1. Prepare 1 of onion, chopped.
  2. Make ready 1 piece of ginger, finely chopped.
  3. Prepare 5 of green chilli, chopped.
  4. Make ready 1 handful of curry leaves.
  5. It’s 1 cup of fried semolina.
  6. Make ready 1 1/2 cup of water.
  7. You need as needed of Salt.
  8. Make ready 1 pinch of turmeric(optional).
  9. It’s 1 spoon of mustard seed.
  10. Take 3 tablespoon of ghee.

Add mustard seeds, channa dal, urad dal and onion.Add semolina and saute until light brown.Add remaining ingredients, except coconut, and mix well.Wheat Semolina Upma: -Wheat semolina is another healthier option when compared to white semolina.

Semolina Upma step by step

  1. Heat ghee in a pan. Add mustard seeds.
  2. When the mustards splutter, add curry leaves, ginger, onion, and green chillies.
  3. When the onion turns brown, add required salt, then add water and allow it to boil..
  4. When the water comes to a rolling boil, lower the flame to its lowest. Then add the semolina in 4 to 5 batches with a spoon..
  5. Once you add the semolina, stir immediately then add the next batch of semolina. Stir again and this way keep on adding and stirring the semolina up to the last batch.Quickly stir and mix well. The grains absorb water and thus swell and get cooked..
  6. Cover and allow the semolina upma to steam for 2 minutes on the low flame.then swtich off the flame. here the semolina is cooked and the upma is ready..
