Rava Upma/Uppittu/Semolina Upma Recipe. Though rava or semolina is made from whole wheat grain, it is a refined food. During the processing or milling, the fibre rich skin from the Rava upma is a south Indian savory breakfast made with semolina, spices and curry leaves.

Ingredients of Rava Upma/Uppittu/Semolina Upma
- It’s 1 cup of semolina/ suji/ rava.
- You need 2 tbsp of oil.
- It’s 1 tsp of mustard seeds.
- Make ready 1/2 tsp of chana dal.
- Make ready 1/2 tsp of urad dal.
- It’s 2 of green chillies.
- It’s 1 of chopped onion.
- You need 1 inch of ginger finely chopped.
- You need leaves of Few curry.
- Prepare 3 cups of water.
- Take 1/2 tsp of sugar.
- Take to taste of Salt.
- Prepare 1 tsp of ghee.
- Prepare 1/2 of lemon juice.
In many hotels, this upma and kesaribath is served together as chow chow bath.In some places, Kharabath is served instead of uppittu.Follow the recipe and bet you will get the perfect upma just as served it.Rave Uppittu is one of the commonly made in almost all south Indian houses either for breakfast or for evening light snack.
Rava Upma/Uppittu/Semolina Upma instructions
- Dry roast the rava for very few seconds on low flame, keep aside to cool completely..
- In a large kadai heat 2 tbsp oil & add 1 tsp mustard seeds,1/2 tsp urad dal, 1/2 tsp chana dal,2 green chillies & few curry leaves..
- Now saute till the mustard seeds splutter..
- Add in the chopped onions, chopped ginger & saute well..
- Now pour 3 cups water & get to boil..
- Then add 1/2 tsp sugar, salt to taste,1 tsp ghee & mix well..
- Keeping the flame on low start adding the roasted rava slowly stirring continuously..
- This helps to prevent from any lumps formation..
- Mix continuously till the rava absorbs water..
- Simmer & cover with a lid on low flame for 5 mints or till upma is cooked well..
- Add 1/2 lemon juice & mix well..
- Serve the delicious,healthy rava upma/ uppittu with coconut chutney..
